Brighton supervisor: Frankel shows
strong fiscal ability
Sandra Frankel has brought her
considerable experience and knowledge to the town of Brighton as its supervisor
for the past 16 years.
So much so that she was considered by the Democrats as a top choice to run
against Maggie Brooks for county executive. She declined and it's to Brighton's
benefit. Frankel, a Democrat, is the Democrat and Chronicle's choice for
re-election in the Nov. 6 election.
Recently, she's been involved with an effort to examine the
consolidation of services among metro governments, and has again shown her
strong fiscal ability by proposing another property tax increase at or less
than the average annual rate of inflation.
There have been some tough issues over the years. The
conflict over land between the town and Faith Temple church comes to mind. In
hindsight, the situation could have been handled more smoothly by both sides.
Overall though, Frankel has been a sound leader. And that's
what Brighton needs as it moves forward.
Her opponent is Republican Wes McAllister. McAllister, who has run against
Frankel twice before, does have considerable experience as a city manager in
several Midwestern cities. But he's had minimal involvement
in the Brighton community since his arrival, and his focus has been too
anti-Frankel. He again didn't provide enough substance to justify removing
a seasoned, solid incumbent.
Frankel has proven through her leadership that she deserves
to be re-elected to another term.
